ROBERTSON TRIUMPHS IN TURIN
Dean Robertson accomplished a lifetime’s ambition when he claimed his first European Tour title with a one stroke victory over Padraig Harrington in the Fiat and Fila Italian Open at Circolo Golf, Torino.
The 28-year-old from Paisley maintained the remarkably high percentage of first time winners in 1999 when he became the seventh debut champion to succeed from 12 European Tour events this season.
HARRINGTON MOVES AHEAD IN ITALY
Padraig Harrington watched his playing partner, Francisco Cea, bogey the final two holes at Circolo Golf, Torino, enabling the 28-year-old Irishman from Dublin to take a one stroke lead into the final round of the Fiat and Fila Italian Open. Harrington, seeking his second European Tour title three years after achieving his initial breakthrough win in the 1996 Spanish Open, shot a third round 68 for a 14 under par total of 202.

CEA TAKES A TWO STROKE LEAD IN ITALY
Francisco Cea of Spain stormed into the lead in the Fiat and Fila Italian Open at Circolo Golf, Torino, with a second round of 65 which eclipsed two more famous Spaniards, Jose Maria Olazabal and Seve Ballesteros. Both Ballesteros and Olazabal made the cut, but it was 25-year-old Cea who captured the spotlight with his seven birdie round for a two round total of 132, 12 under par.
Lanner Smashes Course Record
38 year old Mats Lanner, one of the Swedish pioneers on the Tour, drew inspiration from the victories last weekend of his fellow Swedes on the European and US Tours by smashing the 34-year old CircoloGolf course record by three shots in the first round of the Fiat and Fila Italian Open, shooting a 10-under-par 62 which included nine birdies and one eagle.
