BOTES MOVES AHEAD IN QUALIFYING SCHOOL FINALS
Desvonde Botes, a strapping South African from Pretoria, muscled his way into the lead after two rounds of the European Tour Qualifying School finals at San Roque and Sotogrande. Botes, built like countryman Ernie Els and the man who relieved Els of the title of youngest winner of the South African Amateur at age 16, shot a second round 67 at Sotogrande for a nine under par total of 135.

Sherman blasts into lead in Spain
England’s Paul Sherman took up his father’s offer of caddieing for him for the first time and immediately reaped the rewards with an opening 66, six under par, at San Roque to take the first round lead at the European Tour Qualifying School Finals.

Botes Top of the Class
South African Desvonde Botes finished top of the class at the European Tour Qualifying School Finals with a record low score of 15 under par 417 at the end of the six round marathon. Scotland's Graham Rankin closed with a 65, which included a hole-in-one, to claim the number two card while England's Robert Coles finished third. Exactly 35 players earned a Tour card for the 2001 European Tour International Schedule with the cut off falling at one over par.

Colsaerts leads at Halfway in Spain
18-year-old Nicolas Colsaerts, playing in his first event as a professional, leads the European Tour Qualifying School Finals by two shots at the halfway stage after a four under par 68 at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.

DELIGHT FOR DESVONDE AND DESPAIR FOR OTHERS AT QUALIFYING SCHOOL
Desvonde Botes of South African moved into pole position in his bid to become the first South African winner of the European Tour Qualifying School finals since Retief Goosen in 1992. The 26 year old birdied six of the last ten holes at San Roque for a 67 and a 14 under par total of 274 at the 72-hole cut.
