The format and eligibility for the Alfred Dunhill Cup, to be played at St Andrews on October 12-15, has been announced.
1. The event will be an international match with the following 16 three-man teams competing in medal match play knockout. The 16 teams being drawn into four groups of four that will play a “round robin” league over the first three days with the 4 group winners going forward to the semi-finals on Sunday morning.
The following teams will take part:-
2. Team selection will be the responsibility of the Championship Committee. However, the teams representing England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales will be chosen in the following manner:
a) The leading available player from the World Ranking as at 28th August. Should the leading player decline the opportunity to play, his place will be taken by the first available player from this category.
b) The leading two players from the Volvo Order of Merit as at 28th August not otherwise qualified. Should either player decline the opportunity to play, his place will be taken by the first available player from this category.
Note: Players originally qualified under 2(a) or 2(b) and accepting, will remain qualified in this category should any player withdraw or decline the opportunity to play.
