Cisco World Match Play Championship*

Woosnam Triumphs in Epic Final at Wentworth Club
Ian Woosnam became the oldest winner in the history of the Cisco World Match Play Championship when, at the age of 43, he defeated Padraig Harrington – 13 years his junior – by 2 and 1 in a pulsating final over Wentworth Club’s famous West Course.
Records - and Harrington - fall to Woosie
It was a dream come true for the statisticians and a match of countless delights for the audience. But most of all it was an absolute joy for Ian Woosnam, one of the best days of his professional life. His very inclusion in the Cisco World Match Play Championship had been criticised in some quarters, but he proved the doubters wrong with a magnificent performance that took him to victory over Padraig Harrington in a pulsating final.
Final - much more than sensational
This made sensational look a hopeless inadequate descripton. Padraig Harrington and Ian Woosnam produced golf of the highest order in the first half of the final of the Cisco World Match Play Championship, not so much breaking records as smashing great holes in them.
Woosnam had seven birdies in succession to equal his best mark in the competition and the 28 strokes he played over the front nine was a tournament record. Harrington, in coruscating form all week, did brilliantly well not to be utterly blown away by the brilliance of his veteran Welsh opponent.
'The young and the seasoned'
The story about the Englishman, the Irishman, the Scotsman and the Welshman saw the Englishman and the Scotsman depart before the punchline, but it doesn't make the final chapter today any the less enticing.
History in the making
History will be made at glorious Wentworth Club in the final of the Cisco World Match Play Championship as Ian Woosnam of Wales attempts to become the oldest winner since the tournament’s inception in 1964 while Padraig Harrington aims to lift the crown for Ireland for the first time.
Torrance and Woosnam impress the crowds
This was men against boys, and in one case, at least, the man had the measure of the kid he was playing. Ian Woosnam has been recalling the days of his own youth this week in the Cisco World Match Play Championship and he continued on his merry way in the opening 18 holes of his semi-final against Lee Westwood.
The Internet Home in the Tented Village
For this week only, among the Golf, greenery and esteemed history of the Wentworth course sits a totally modern and urban phenomenon - The Cisco & Laing Internet Home. In partnership with Laing Homes, Cisco Systems has created a house full of all the technology available to not only make our everyday lives easier but improve efficiency in everything we do.
The Promise of the Semis
If the rest of this year's Cisco World Match Play Championship is to better what has gone on so far, it will have to go some. The first two days of the event has produced some sensational golf, spectacular scoring and even the odd walk or two down memory lane. As the semi-finals get under way this morning, more of the same is promised, and then some.
Four nations bid for the championship crown.
An Englishman, Irishman, Scotsman and Welshman will be aiming for the world over the weekend following an epic day’s golf in the second round of the Cisco World Match Play Championship under a hot autumnal sun at Wentworth Club.
Wizard Woosie Casts his Magic on Wentworth
Ian Woosnam carried on from where he had left off on Thursday night as he moved serenely into an impressive lead against former winner Colin Montgomerie in the quarter-final match. Having despatched US Open champion Retief Goosen 4 and 3 in the first round, Woosnam was three up on Montgomerie, champion in 1999, after 18 holes.
