Retief Goosen has been drawn with Colin Montgomerie and Scott McCarron for the first two rounds of The Masters Tournament as he seeks a second Major Championship title and second successive victory in the United States.
Goosen, the 2001 Volvo Order of Merit Champion, reigning US Open Champion and winner of last week’s BellSouth Classic, will tee up at Augusta National at 10.31am EST alongside seven-time Volvo Order of Merit winner Montgomerie and McCarron, the man who beat Montgomerie in the first round of the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play in February.
One of the premier groupings will see three Major Champions competing alongside each other with the current European Tour Number One, Ernie Els, playing with Honorary European Tour Member Greg Norman, who received a special invitation to compete this year. The third member of the group, which tees off at 10.09am, will be last year’s runner-up and the reigning Open Champion, David Duval.
The first European Tour Member to tee off will be 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie in the second group out at 8.41 am EST in the company of 1996 Open Champion Tom Lehman and New Zealand’s Craig Perks, winner of the Players Championship last month.
Double Masters Champion José Maria Olazábal, currently second in the both the Volvo Order of Merit and the US PGA Tour Money List, has been drawn with Michael Campbell and former US Amateur Champion Matt Kuchar.
2000 Masters Champion Vijay Singh plays alongside Thomas Björn and Justin Leonard while Bernhard Langer, winner of the Green Jacket in 1985 and 1993, is in the last group out at 1.49pm EST with Bob Estes and Shigeki Maruyama.
Tiger Woods launches his defence of the title at 10.53am in the company of US Amateur Champion Bubba Dickerson and Toshi Izawa of Japan.
