A field of 120 will play one round on each of the first two days, after which the leading 70 professionals and those who tie for 70th place, will go forward to the third and fourth rounds.
The field will comprise:
(a) All previous winners of the Trophée Lancôme.
(b) The current Open Champion.
(c) The current United States Masters Champion.
(d) The current United States Open Champion.
(e) The current United States PGA Champion.
(f) The current Japan Open Champion.
(g) The current Australian Open Champion.
(h) The current South African Open Champion.
(i) The current Cisco World Match Play Champion.
(j) Members of the 2002 European Ryder Cup Team.
(k) The leading 25 players in the Volvo Order of Merit after the American Express Championship on 23rd September 2002.
(l) The leading 10 players who have entered from the Official World Golf Ranking after the 2002 WGC – NEC Invitational.
(m) The leading six players from the 2002 French National Order of Merit as at 23rd September, not otherwise qualified from the categories listed above.
(n) A maximum of six players nominated by the sponsor in agreement with the European Tour, two of whom must be members of the European Tour.
(o)* A leading French Amateur player to be decided between the French Golf Federation and the host club, and the current French Amateur Champion.
(p) The balance of the field will be completed in accordance with the 2002 European Tour Exemption Category List.
