O'Hern and Tunnicliff storm to the top at Gleneagles
On a day interrupted by a ferocious hail, thunder and lightning storm described by European Tour chief referee John Paramor as “the worst I have ever experienced in Britain at a golf tournament,” on the course the headlines belonged to Nick O’Hern and Miles Tunnicliff who shared the first round lead in the Diageo Championship at Gleneagles.
Magical Miles spreadeagles Gleneagles
Almost two years ago to the day, Miles Tunnicliff produced one of the most emotional victories ever witnessed on The European Tour when he claimed the 2002 Great North Open at Slaley Hall and the Englishman gave himself the ideal chance for another success when he moved into a commanding lead at the halfway stage of the Diageo Championship at Gleneagles.
Tunnicliff Stays on Top as Hansen gets Hot at Gleneagles
Englishman Miles Tunnicliff maintained his grip on the Diageo Championship at Gleaneagles with a third round 72 to remain on nine under par and take a three shot lead from Denmark’s Anders Hansen, Spain’s Santiago Luna and Australian Nick O’Hern – after Hansen racked up eight birdies in 12 holes to join the chasing pack with a sizzling 64.
Tunnicliff is Miles better at Gleneagles
Englishman Miles Tunnicliff secured his second European Tour victory at the Diageo Championship after a brilliant bogey free 68 at windswept Gleaneagles left him five shots clear of his good friend Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland – and allowed him to register the largest winning margin of the European Tour International Schedule in 2004.
