Derksen Wins in Madeira with Brilliant Birdie at the Final Hole
Robert-Jan Derksen holed a brilliant 15 foot birdie putt on the 72nd and final hole to secure the second European Tour victory of his career at the dual ranking Madeira Island Open Caixa Geral de Depositos. The Dutchman posted a four round total of 13 under par 275 to take the €100,000 first prize ahead of South Africa’s Andrew McLardy and Scotland’s Gary Orr.
McLardy and Sullivan Lead as the Conditions Toughen on the Mountains of Madeira
South Africa’s Andrew McLardy and Welshman Kyron Sullivan share the lead at the dual ranking Madeira Island Open Caixa Geral de Depositos after a day of blustery winds and some biting cold conditions on the mountain tops of Santo da Serra. The leaders posted three round totals of nine under par 207 and are being closely pursued by two European Tour champions, Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen and Scotland’s Gary Orr.
Sullivan Retains his Lead as the Fog Delayed Second Round is Completed in Madeira
Kyron Sullivan remained in a one shot lead at the Madeira Island Open Caixa Geral de Depositos as the fog delayed second round was completed on Saturday morning. The Welshman posted a halfway total of ten under par 132 to lead England’s John Bickerton and Ireland’s David Higgins by a single stroke.
Scahill and Sullivan Lead After an Amazing First Round in Madeira
New Zealand’s Stephen Scahill and Welshman Kyron Sullivan share the lead after a glorious day’s golf at the dual ranking Madeira Island Open Caixa Geral de Depositos saw both players card outstanding first round scores of eight under par 64, while Scotland’s Andrew Coltart scored only the second albatross of The 2005 European Tour season and Markus Brier of Austria produced a hole in one at the beautiful Santo da Serra venue.
