Birthday Boy Fasth Reigns in Spain After Play-off
Sweden’s Niclas Fasth extended his run of play-off victories to three when he defeated England’s John Bickerton to capture the Andalucía Open de España Valle Romano at San Roque Club, Cadiz. Fasth, who had turned 34 the day before, delivered the perfect birthday present to himself with a glorious nine iron to five feet at the ninth green that set up a winning birdie after both players had parred the 18th three times.
San Roque Makes Griffiths Feel at Home in Unchartered Territory
The log jam at the top of the Andalucía Open de España Valle Romano leaderboard was finally broken late in the day on Saturday when young Englishman David Griffiths moved two shots clear in his bid to become the ninth first-time winner on The 2006 European Tour. A six under par 66 took Griffiths to 17 under par 199 and two clear of Swedes Niclas Fasth and Robert Karlsson going into the final round.
Storming Finish puts Graeme in line for Maiden Title
(Reuters) - Former British Amateur Champion Graeme Storm put himself in sight of a maiden European Tour title on Friday when the Englishman led the Andalucia Open de España Valle Romano by a stroke at the halfway stage. Storm birdied his last three holes to retain the top place he had shared after the first round with Portugal’s Jose-Filipe Lima, carding a five under par 67 to move to 12 under par 132.
Ballesteros graces San Roque leaderboard - but it's not Seve
(Reuters) - The name Ballesteros graced the top of the leaderboard for a long time on day one of the Andalucia Open de España Valle Romano at San Roque Club. But it was not Severiano Ballesteros but the five-time major champion’s 25 year old nephew Raul.
Lima and Storm set new course record at San Roque
José-Filipe Lima of Portugal built on his third place in China last weekend by grabbing a share of the lead with England’s Graeme Storm after day one of the Andalucia Open de España Valle Romano at a sun-drenched San Roque Club. The pair returned seven under par 65s, a record for San Roque’s New Course, and sit a stroke clear of a five-strong group that includes three local favourites in Raul Ballesteros, nephew of the five-time Major champion, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Juan Parron.
Montgomerie headlines the field at the San Roque Club
Colin Montgomerie will attempt to add a fourth European Tour International Schedule title on Spanish soil to an already glittering golfing CV when he headlines the field for the Andalucia Open de España Valle Romano at the San Roque Club this week.
