European Captain Ian Woosnam has made only one change to the opening day foursomes pairings for this afternoon as he looks to press home the advantage in the second foursomes session.

Sergio Garcia, who has claimed maximum points at The K Club, will look to extend his remarkable record in foursomes as he again partners Luke Donald against Phil Mickelson and David Toms. Garcia is unbeaten in all seven previous foursomes matches in his Ryder Cup career, winning three of those matches with his close friend Donald.

The second match sees Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood lining up against Chad Campbell and Vaughn Taylor, who will get his first taste of Ryder Cup action.

The Paul Casey and David Howell partnership is the only new pairing from the European Team as they face Stewart Cink and Zach Johnson. While is may be the first time they have played together in this Ryder Cup, it was the Casey / Howell partnership that turned the tide in Europe’s favour two years ago when they won their fourball match at Oakland Hills, inspiring a European rout.

Casey and Howell also played alongside each other in last year’s Seve Trophy at the Wynyard Club, winning three of their four matches together.

The final match will arguably be the biggest draw with Padriag Harrington and Paul McGinley out against Jim Furyk and Tiger Woods.
