Play-off Drama as Germany win WGC-Barbados World Cup
Bernhard Langer and Marcel Siem found the perfect chemistry of youth and experience to defeat another similarly balanced partnership in Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren as Germany won the WGC-Barbados World Cup at the first hole of a play-off against Scotland at Sandy Lane Resort. Langer, 49, who won the World Cup in its previous format in 1990 with Torsten Giedeon, savoured the winning feel again 16 years on with 26 year old Siem by his side and 15 year old son, Stefan, carrying his bag.
Stenson and Pettersson Poised to Strike in Barbados
Twelve months after being frustrated by the weather in Portugal, Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and his partner, Carl Pettersson, are in pole position to claim the WGC-Barbados World Cup at Sandy Lane Resort. The Swedes go into the final round of foursomes on 197, 16 under par, holding a one stroke lead over Argentina with Scotland a further shot away in third.
Argentina Aim to Bridge 53 year Gap in Barbados
Argentina, the inaugural winners of the event under its past format back in 1953, took an impressive step towards a first success under the World Golf Championships umbrella when Angel Cabrera and Andres Romero romped into a three shot lead at the halfway stage of the WGC-Barbados World Cup at Sandy Lane Resort.
Argentina, South Africa and Sweden Share Lead in Barbados
Reuters - South Africans Rory Sabbatini and Richard Sterne, dovetailing superbly on the back nine of 30, stormed into a share of the first round lead in the WGC - Barbados World Cup at Sandy Lane Resort on the Caribbean Island. In gruelling conditions, the South Africans carded a seven under par 64 in the fourball (best ball) format to set the pace with Argentine duo Andres Romero and Angel Cabrera and the Swedish pair of Henrik Stenson and Carl Pettersson.
