• History was created in the 2003 event when  Shih-kai Lo became the youngest player to compete in a European Tour event, aged just 13 and 280 days, beating the then record set by Sergio Garcia of 15 and 45 days in the 1995 Turespaña Open Mediterrania. Land of Valencia.

• Maarten Lafeber shot a 63 (-7) in the 2006 UBS Hong Kong Open in round three. The front nine of that round saw him shoot 28, which was the lowest nine hole total on the 2006 European Tour International Schedule.

• Defending champion, Colin Montgomerie, aims to continue his streak of achieving at least one world-wide victory in every calendar year since 1993, to take the figure to 14.
