Carnoustie Course Information

Special Features - “Classic links”, undulating fairways, thick rough and a winding barry burn.
General Playability - Excellent
Undulating/Flat - Gently undulating.
Treelined/exposed - Exposed near seaboard – some tree plantations.
Many / few water hazards - Several ditches plus the Barry Burn.
Changes to the Course – 3rd hole – re-modelled fairway and associated bunkers. A mound of rough has been added in the middle of the fairway at approx. 200 yards

Greens
Type of grass - Brown top.  Bent 65% red fescue 25%, annual meadow grass 10%
Height of cut - 3.0mm
Speed/stimp reading – 9 ¾
Any specific comments – Wear tolerant, good density, working on firmness, average area 700  sq yds. One double green

Fairways
Type of grass – Various fescues – brown top bent – some ryegrass annual meadow grass
Height of cut – 9mm
General width and contouring – 22-26 yds generally, mostly gently rolling contours.
Any specific comments - Good uniformity between high spots & low spots.  Still working on firmness and sward quality in low spots.

Tees
Type of grass – Bent, fescue – meadow grass.
Height of cut - 6.5mm
Any specific comments - Good cover – working on firmness.

Collars
Type of grass - Bent, fescue – meadow grass.

Forecast for tournament – Partly sunny and cool with patchy fog and morning showers on Thursday and Saturday. Light winds 10-15mph

Other Features
- All non-indigenous pine trees have been removed from 7th and 14th holes to restore it to its natural links.They have been replaced by gentle links mounding and gorse bushes being planted. There is a Barry Burn M.O.D. training area adjacent to the 6th and 7th holes. Added hazard: beware regular firing in progress.
- Only Open venue to be played by the legendary Ben Hogan in 1953 – there is a special plaque installed at the 6th hole and the hole is named after him – Hogans Alley.
- This 2007 Open Championship was played on this course.

PLEASE NOTE: - COURSE CHANGES

• 3rd Hole: Dog-leg accentuated with rough mounding on right. 3 new fairway bunkers have been positioned and a mound of rough has formed in the middle of the fairway at approx 200 yds from tee.

• 3rd Hole: Re-moddelled fairway and associated bunkers. A mound of rough has been added in the middle of the fairway at approx 200 yards.

• 6th Hole: Slight bunker position changes on the right of the tee shot landing areas.

• 17th: New contoured rough on right hand side of the ‘Island Hole’ and left-hand rough on 18th hole

• 18th championship tee raised and extended to form two tiers


TEE CHANGES:

The Total length of the course is 7,412 yards.

Also the 12th hole has been changed back to a par 5.
