Ignacio Garrido and Rory McIlroy share the lead at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship as both players moved to eight under par after ten holes of their second round.
A hailstorm which flooded part of the course on day one meant several players were yet to complete their opening rounds when play resumed, and Northern Ireland’s McIlroy wasted little time joining Swedish duo Johan Edfors and Mikael Lundberg on six under.
The 19 year old then birdied the 11th and the first after starting his second round at the tenth tee to draw level with Garrido.
The Spaniard carded four birdies and a bogey in his opening ten holes to sit one stroke clear of a group of players assembled at seven under.
England’s Paul Casey was four under for his round through ten holes to add to his opening 69, alongside Robert-Jan Derksen who was three under after eight and Australia’s Brett Rumford, who was three under on the day after completing the 12th.
Edfors and Lundberg were yet to start their second rounds, but had been joined on six under by Louis Oosthuizen, Anthony Wall and amateur Danny Lee.
