• By recording 18 straight pars in the final day in 2008, Jeev Milkha Singh claimed the title and became just the second golfer to win a European Tour event after compiling 18 par figures in the last round. The Indian follows Sir Nick Faldo who achieved the feat in the 1987 Open Championship at Muirfield, to claim the first of his six Major Championships.

• Austria’s number one player and 2006 champion, Markus Brier, who is attached to the Fontana Golf Club, became the only player to win the same tournament when it was both a regular Challenge and European Tour event. He won the championship when it was on the Challenge Tour schedule in 2002 and 2004.

• German amateur Max Kramer, made European Tour history in the 2006 tournament by becoming the first amateur to record an albatross. He achieved the feat at Fontana’s ninth hole in round one, using a six iron from 180 yards.
