•  In 2007 Tiger Woods created a European Tour record by wining the tournament for a third consecutive season. He became the first player to win the same event for three consecutive years on two different occasions, having already won the event in 1999, 2000 and 2001, then in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

• Defending champion Vijay Singh claimed his first World Golf Championships victory at Akron in 2008. When he claimed his victory he was 45 and 163 days and was the oldest winner on the 2008 European Tour International Schedule.

• Another record Woods claimed as a result of his 2007 victory saw him become  the first player in European Tour history to win two different titles, six times, having won the World Golf Championships – CA Championship for the sixth time in March 2007.

• Should Geoff Ogilvy win at Firestone Country Club he will become the second player, after Woods to win all three WGC events, having previously claimed the WGC – Accenture Match Play in 2006 and 2009 and  the 2008 WGC – CA Championship.

• Stuart Appleby continues his record of being the only player to play in every WGC event since they began in 1999. The 2009 WGC – Bridgestone Invitational will be his 32nd consecutive WGC appearance

•  There are nine European Tour Members making their WGC – Bridgestone Invitational debut. They are: Christian Cévaër, Nathan Green, Anthony Kang, Søren Kjeldsen, Danny Lee, Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy, Alvaro Quiros and Camillo Villegas.

• Of  those  nine, four will be experiencing a WGC event for the first time. They are: Christian Cévaër, Anthony Kang, Danny Lee and Shane Lowry.
