Challenge Tour graduate Morrison took a one shot lead into the third round after a brilliant second round 65.
And the 25 year old, who could have been a professional cricketer and is still friends with England stars Alastair Cook, Tim Bresnan and Ravi Bopara, went through his first five holes in one under courtesy of a birdie at the third.
That took him to 13 under, but playing partner Murray stayed in touch with his own birdie on the 539 yard par five third.
Ireland's Simon Thornton remained third on ten under par, although he was doing well to think about golf on the day his wife is due to give birth to their first child.
England's John Parry played his first five holes in two under to reach nine under for the week, two shots ahead of compatriot Gary Clark
