The inaugural £5 Friday at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles has raised £19,500 for clubgolf.
The donation is being made by The Gleneagles Hotel, venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup, with a contribution from the European Tour.
Patrick Elsmie, Managing Director of the 5 star resort, said: ‘As the venue for the Johnnie Walker Championship we were delighted to introduce £5 Friday this year and welcome so many aspiring junior players throughout the week. It is important to us as a high profile golfing venue and the Host Venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup that we help to create opportunities for the next generation of players. This support for clubgolf allows us to do that.
‘This week’s event has enjoyed tremendous support from players and spectators alike. By taking this initiative with the ticket price, we hope that many more spectators were encouraged to come along and support the development of the game in Scotland as well as a great day out.’
Such is the success of £5 Friday that Gleneagles has decided to do it again in 2012.
Jackie Davidson, clubgolf manager, said: 'clubgolf is absolutely thrilled with the success of £5 Friday and enormously grateful to the Gleneagles Hotel and the Johnnie Walker Championship for this amazing donation.
'This will be a fantastic boost to the clubgolf programme and we are thrilled that £5 Friday will be repeated in 2012.'
The donation reflects the total number of spectators through the gate on Friday 26th August and includes complementary and season ticket holders.
