Dutchman Joost Luiten made a flying start to the Trophée Hassan II to take an early lead during the opening round in Morocco.

The 26 year old, who won his maiden European Tour title in Malaysia last year, birdied six of his first eight holes at Golf du Palais Royal.

At six under par he was two clear of compatriot Robert-Jan Derksen, Irishman Damien McGrane, England’s Andrew Johnston and Italian Ryder Cup star Edoardo Molinari.

American John Daly, who during the tournament build up described the exclusive course at the Royal Palace of Agadir as “one of the nicest courses I have ever seen and played”, was part of a group on three under.

Daly’s fellow American and Major winner Rich Beem was two under during the early stages.
