Bernd Wiesberger remained five shots clear as the final round of the Ballantine’s Championship began in Icheon.

The 26 year old Austrian, on the cusp of a maiden European Tour title after consecutive rounds of 65 at Blackstone Golf Club, saw Australian Marcus Fraser trim his advantage to four with a 30 foot birdie putt at the third.

But Wiesberger, a runner-up in Scotland and South Africa last season, responded with a pitch to six feet at the long fifth for a first gain of the day after opening with four consecutive pars.

On 15 under Wiesberger was five clear of playing partner Fraser, who won this event on Jeju Island in 2010, and had not dropped a shot for 46 holes.

Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, Chile’s Felipe Aguilar and Ireland’s Ryder Cup Vice Captain Paul McGinley were tied for third on nine under.

Four further pars saw Wiesberger turn in 35 and still five clear, although Fraser had been joined in second by first round leader Victor Dubuisson.

The 22 year old Frenchman had dropped off the leaderboard after a second round 75, but six birdies in eight holes from the fourth put him in position for a sizeable share of the €2,205,000 prize fund.

Ramsay holed a five footer at the 16th to move to 12 under, but the gap was not three for long.

Wiesberger hit a glorious pitch at the par five 15th to eight feet and rolled the putt in to advance to 16 under.
