Thorbjørn Olesen survived a watery scare to remain in charge of the Lyoness Open powered by Greenfinity.

Three shots ahead of Rikard Karlberg going into the final round, Olesen played his first six holes in one under par - the birdie coming at the third - to extend his advantage to four shots.

But the Sicilian Open winner’s attacking instincts got him in trouble at the par five seventh, where he went for the green in two but leaked his shot right and found the water.

However, the 22 year old produced a good recovery shot and holed an eight footer for par to stay 17 under.

The gap was back down to three, though, as Karlberg birdied the seventh. He was joined by Frenchman Thomas Levet, who also gained a shot at the hole, after an earlier birdie at the short fifth.

Six-time European Tour winner Levet, at 43 almost double Olesen’s age, started for home with two birdies in three holes and suddenly Olesen - the leader since the second day - was only one ahead.

Not that Levet was the only danger; home favourite Bernd Wiesberger birdied three holes out of four from the ninth and at 15 under was only two behind in third place.
