George Coetzee picked up four shots in the first four holes to propel himself up the leaderboard on the penultimate day at the SA Open Championship.

The South African, whose place on the DP World Tour Championship next week is already secure, had failed to post a score below 70 in his first two outings round the Serengeti Gold & Wildlife Estate, but he began with a bang at the third time of asking.

After consecutive birdies at the first and second, Coetzee chipped in to pick up an eagle at the 445 yard par four to join former Masters Tournament champion Charl Schwartzel and Lloyd Saltman on eight under par.

Another gain followed at the sixth before he reached the green at the par five eighth in two to collect another birdie, which moved him into third place behind overnight leader Henrik Stenson and fellow countryman Merrick Bremner.

Swede Stenson picked up a birdie on the second while playing partner Bremner made a gain at the next hole to remain three strokes back.
