Justin Rose made a steady rather than spectacular start to the final round as he looks to mark his Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship debut with a win.

The World Number Five was two shots clear overnight and maintained that advantage over the opening stretch.

The 32 year old found sand of the tee at the first but was able to salvage par, then chipped from a greenside bunker to two feet at the next to set up a regulation birdie at the par five.

At 13 under Rose remained two in front of Welshman Jamie Donaldson, who followed an opening birdie with three straight pars.

Dane Thorbjørn Olesen missed an eight foot birdie chance at the first but then had to scramble for pars at the next two and by failing to gain a shot over the opening stretch dropped to third alongside Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee and England’s David Howell.

Olesen hit his tee shot close on the 174 yard fourth to move back within two, and it took only one more hole for him to claim a share of the lead.

Rose went from left rough to right rough on the 469 yard fifth, failed to get up and down and Olesen, having fired in his approach to two feet, birdied to join him on 12 under.

Howell's ten foot putt on the following green, meanwhile, left him and Donaldson only one back.
