Adilson Da Silva showed his blistering start to the Africa Open was no fluke as he built a commanding lead early on day two.

The Brazilian birdied five of his first six holes on Thursday, but after a lengthy delay caused by strong winds was only able to par the next two before play was halted for the day.

One behind clubhouse leader Jaco Van Zyl overnight, the 41 year old - a regular on the co-sanctioning Sunshine Tour - birdied the ninth on his return, then eagled the long 15th and finished with back-to-back birdies for a sensational ten under par 62 and four shot lead.

After a quick turnaround Da Silva began his second round and birdied the short tenth - his second - to further extend his advantage.

Van Zyl, among the later starters on day two after his 66 in the toughest of the conditions yesterday, was his nearest challenger five back, while Spain’s Ignacio Garrido was one under through five holes of his second round to move into a share of third place with John Parry on four under.

Da Silva bogeyed the 11th, but birdied the 13th and 15th - the latter after chipping to three feet - and as a result was six clear on 12 under.

Van Zyl was still not due to tee off for a couple of hours, but had been joined by Garrido after the Spaniard birdied the sixth and seventh, and in-form Ricardo Santos.

The Portuguese star, 11th on The Race to Dubai after three top-ten finishes in his first five events of the season, had three birdies in the first ten holes of his second round then sunk a 20 foot eagle putt at the long first to be five under for his round with seven holes remaining.
