Peter Whiteford grabbed the lead early on during the final round of the Ballantine’s Championship as the Scot chases his first European Tour title.

One behind overnight leader Alex Noren overnight, the 32 year old holed an 18 footer at third and from ten feet at the next to reach ten under par.

With Noren dropping back to eight under after picking up a penalty shot at the second – his ball moving a fraction as he addressed his par putt – it was left to Australian Brett Rumford and Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal to take up the chase.

Larrazábal holed a five footer at fourth to move to nine under in his bid for a third European Tour title while Rumford - who finished with five birdies in a row on Saturday - opened with a birdie from 20 feet before hitting his approach to five feet at the next.
