Denmark’s Thomas Björn grabbed the clubhouse lead during the third round of the BMW International Open as a number of players moved into contention.

With overnight leader Ernie Els faltering slightly with a level par front nine 36, Björn, Alex Noren and Alexander Levy were able to hit the front on 14 under par.

Björn was in the clubhouse at Golfclub München Eichenried after nine birdies and two bogeys in his 65, while Swede Noren was five under through 13 and France’s Levy three under after ten holes.

American Peter Uihlein was a shot further back having played his first 15 holes in five under par, with Els, debutant Brandon Stone, home favourite Martin Kaymer, England’s Matthew Baldwin and defending champion Danny Willett 12 under.

Willett had begun with ten straight pars, but just as he appeared to be dropping off the pace eagled the 12th from 30 feet.

Play had been delayed for a total of two hours and 20 minutes earlier by heavy rain which led to parts of the course flooding.
