Eight representatives from The European Tour Wives Association (ETWA) made a special visit the Official Charity of the Irish Open - RESPECT ’s intellectual disabilities care centre local to Carton House.

The ETWA has an actively role in the charitable activity of the European Tour via its charitable arm the Tour Players Foundation, a registered charity initialised by the ETWA and their Husbands and partners to represent the Players, ETWA and the European Tour.

The ETWA were hosted by RESPECT’s Sr Zoe Killeen and her support team, given the opportunity to see at close quarters the sterling work carried out by the carers within their Consilla Care Village during a tour of the village’s facility and interacting with RESPECT Ireland’s service users.

On behalf of the ETWA, Karen Horne, wife of Tour player, Keith, said: “We were made to feel very much at home during our visit by Sister Zoe and her team. It was great to see the facilities and spend time with those being cared for with such obvious compassion and love.  We hope that both the donation from our partners’ and RESPECT’s involvement in this Irish Open will enable this wonderful charity to continue its great work"

At the conclusion of the visit the ETWA were able to proudly hand over a donation of €14,000 from their husbands and partners as all professional playing in this week’s Official Irish Open Pro-Am donated their appearance in full to RESPECT which equating to a collective sum in excess of €14,000.

Sr Zoe Killeen said: "We were very privileged to have a visit from the ETWA today to our centre at St Joseph's, Clonsilla. I also wish to thank the Players who generously donated their fees to the charity RESPECT and to their wives who took the time to visit the centre. On behalf of our People with an Intellectual Disability, I wish to thank all involved in making this memorable day possible and one that we will always cherish"

This donation kick starts this week’s fundraising for RESPECT, other to be announced initiatives will see considerable funds raised for the charity over the course of 2013 Irish Open via support of sponsors and partners of the event.
