Fisher was part of the victorious European Team at The Celtic Manor Resort in 2010, and returns to South Wales for the ISPS Handa Wales Open as the points race to make Paul McGinley’s side begins.
“It’s very exciting stuff, 12 months until next year's Ryder Cup,” said Fisher.“It’s nice to be back in Wales and a sunny Wales this time, so hopefully we'll get four good days of nice Welsh sun.
“It’s always nice to be back at a place that has fond memories, and after The Ryder Cup in 2010 and coming close here last year, I’m delighted to be back in the UK and looking forward to a good week.
“It definitely brings back a nice feel when I come back to Celtic Manor, for sure.”
Since partnering Padraig Harrington to two wins for Colin Montgomerie, Fisher has failed to add to his four European Tour titles, but having finished in the top 35 on all seven Race to Dubai appearances this season and having finished sixth here last year, the 32 year old is confident he can re-enter the winner’s circle this week by drawing on his Ryder Cup memories.
“I'm playing for just myself, but there's definitely a hunger in there,” he added. “It's the first week of Ryder Cup points, and I would dearly like to make McGinley's team, having played in two Seve Trophy teams of his and being on winning teams all the times I've played, so I know what he is capable of as a captain. I think he'll be a great captain for Europe, and he's one I'll relish the chance of playing under in a year's time.
“Any time you can be back in the UK playing in front of home crowds - although Wales is not home for me it's only a couple of hours away - it definitely makes you more determined to put in a strong performance.
“I really like the golf course and have really fond memories, and after last year it would be nice to get my own back on it a little bit. I will be out there trying to put in another strong performance this week.
“I feel like the course suits my game and I feel comfortable on it. I like the way the greens putt. Having been away from Europe so much this year, it's nice to be back in Europe and playing some good golf.
“It's the first week of a long year before The Ryder Cup starts, but it would be nice to get off to a hot start and remind Paul of my capabilities. I'll definitely be doing my best to make the team.”
