With worlds set to collide this week in Scotland as stars of stage, screen and sport tee it up with the professionals in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, europeantour.com had a look at the draw for the first round to be played at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

There will be plenty of South African eyes on the hallowed turf of Carnoustie Golf Links on Thursday morning as some of their country’s finest golfing exports tee it up on the 7,412 yard brute.

Four time Major Champion Ernie Els will lead the men from the Rainbow Nation out at 9.22am alongside his father, Nils, and they will be joined by 2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel and Dunhill boss Johann Rupert from the first tee.

Following swiftly behind will be compatriots Louis Oosthuizen, teamed up alongside his manager Chubby Chandler, and Richard Sterne, who will play with New Zealand businessman Craig Heatley.

A little American interest follows on from that in the shape of Peter Uihlein, who will hope it is good news that he is playing alongside rock and roller Huey Lewis at 9.44am. While another man crossing the Atlantic this week is Rich Beem, and he will need fast feet to keep up with playing partner, and Lord of the Dance, Michael Flatley from 11.01am.

From the world of show business, actor Andy Garcia is next up and will have Retief Goosen for company, before Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley teams up with TV star Kyle McLaughlin, alongside the pairing of four time European Tour winner David Howell, and star of stage and screen, Hugh Grant from 11.12am.

Having played at Carnoustie, this side of the draw will then head to Kingsbarns on Friday when the groups shall be redrawn.

Over at St Andrews on day one, there could be the smell of smoke in the air, the odour of an Ashes rivalry that will once again rear its head this winter as England head to Australia looking to once more retain their crown.

That could be the subject of conversation for one group in particular with spin bowling, and Australian, legend Shane Warne set to play alongside former England Cricket Captain Michael Vaughan. Their professionals will be fellow countrymen Peter O’Malley and Lee Slattery, respectively, from the first tee at 10.06am. Let the sledging commence.

While following straight on after that will be Knight of the Realm, and fellow cricketing star, Sir Ian Botham. His playing partners will be David Horsey, fellow former England cricketer and Captain Andrew Strauss, and Richard Finch.

Preceding both of these will also be a couple of Dutchmen – Ruud Gullit and Johann Cruyff – looking to play Total Golf this week, rather than the flambuoyant style of football that they were known for some years ago. They will be under the guidance of Denmark’s Anders Hansen and The Netherlands’ Maarten Lafeber from the first at 9.22am.

They will be followed by fellow footballing greats Sir Bobby Charlton and Franz Klammer, accompanied by Simon Wakefield and Morten Orum Madsen respectively on Thursday, before this side of the draw heads over to Carnoustie the following day.

Just down the rugged coast at Kingsbarns on day one will be Old School actor Luke Wilson, paired with Chris Wood and playing alongside Robert Rock and Andrew White from the tenth tee at 10.39am.

They will be joined down there by New Zealand rugby legend Sean Fitzpatrick, who captained the All Blacks from 1992 to 1997, who is playing with Keith Horne, Justin Walters and Mohammed Al-Husseiny at 11.12am before heading over to the Old Course at St Andrews on Friday morning.
