Colin Montgomerie will return to European Tour action this week as the architect in chief of the host venue for the Turkish Airline Open by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture – the Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Antalya.
The eight time European Tour Order of Merit winner, who won the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters on the Senior Tour in September, is certainly relishing his return to the game’s biggest stage as he looks forward to joining World Number One Tiger Woods and the majority of The European Tour’s biggest stars on one of his finest courses.
“I am really looking forward to getting back out on the European Tour and what better place to return than at one of my courses,” smiled Montgomerie.
“It was great to win on the Senior Tour at Woburn and it has helped give me a bit of confidence so I feel like my game is in pretty good shape at the moment. Everyone knows I am competitive and I will be hoping to perform well in Turkey.
“It is fantastic that the Turkish Airlines Open features so many of the European Tour’s leading players and, as the penultimate event on the Race to Dubai, there is a lot to play for. The addition of Tiger Woods obviously adds to the field as he’s had a fantastic season and I am sure all the fans will be excited to see the number one golfer in the world in the line-up.
“I am thrilled that one of my designs has been chosen to stage the first ever European Tour event in Turkey. It will be a very special week and, from what I hear, the course will be in pristine condition and I believe it will present a challenging, but fair test. The Maxx Royal Golf & Spa is a magnificent resort. The players will be treated to authentic Turkish hospitality and I have no doubt they will enjoy their stay.”
