Daniel Brooks was trying not to get too carried away despite extending his lead to three shots ahead of the final round of The Nelson Mandela Championship presented by ISPS Handa.

The Englishman completed his second successive bogey-free round on Saturday as he added a six under par second round 64 to his opening 62; weather delays at Mount Edgecombe meaning the Qualifying School graduate’s rounds were completed four days apart.

Brooks had seven holes of his second round left overnight, as he looked to extend a one shot lead over compatriot Matthew Baldwin and Spain’s Jorge Campillo – who completed a memorable 59 on Friday.

Birdies from ten feet at the sixth and via a chip-in at the seventh stretched his advantage to three, but the 26 year old was attempting to keep expectations in check, having never posted a top-ten finish on The European Tour before.

“It was quite nice going out there today and hitting a few nice shots early on and getting a bit of confidence going,” he said. “I holed a couple of nice putts again, so hopefully we’ll carry that on this afternoon.

“It will be good fun - I haven’t been in this position before, so I’ll take whatever happens, because it’s all a learning curve.”

South African Dawie van der Walt birdied the last to join Baldwin and Campillo in second, with Oliver Bekker and Branden Grace a shot further back.

The third and final round was immediately under way in a U-draw, with the leaders due out at 11:20 local time.
