American John Hahn extended his lead as the third round of the Africa Open began in East London.

The 24 year old, one of four players from the US to successfully negotiate Qualifying School in November, reached the green in two at the par five third and two-putted for birdie to reach 17 under.

That put him three clear at East London Golf Club, where play had started early to get the second round completed before the third round started in a U-draw.

England’s Richard Bland was making the biggest charge as the third round got underway, holing a 12 foot putt at the sixth for his fifth birdie in six holes to sit alongside compatriot Oliver Fisher and Portugal’s first round leader Ricardo Santos in second on 14 under.

Home favourite Thomas Aiken and Argentine Emiliano Grillo were a shot further back in fifth.
