Some of the biggest names in the world of golf will become highly visible and familiar faces to 3,500,000 people living, working or visiting London at strategic, high target locations around the capital.
To coincide with the announcement that Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood will compete in this year’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in Surrey from May 22-25, the images of the three superstars of the European Tour will be prominent on 110 high-impact sites in and around the capital.
The players, who will spearhead a world-class field for the 2014 event, can be seen around Greater London as part of the new agreement between the European Tour and outdoor advertising company, Clear Channel UK, who recently become an Official Media Partner of the Tour’s flagship event.
Rose, Stenson and Westwood dominate the landscape on 96-sheet sites on the Cromwell Road in London, close to Earl’s Court Road junction, with adverts also running on numerous 48-sheet billboards and 6-sheet Adshel bus stop panels around the city, numbering 110 in total.
The initial phase of activity with Clear Channel will be for two weeks with the next phase of the long-term campaign due to be launched in early April.
Clear Channel has a national network of 60,000 high-impact advertising sites nationwide, including on the key arterial routes in and around the Capital, and will deliver visibility and brand awareness of the BMW PGA Championship 2014 on an unprecedented scale.
Over an intensive three-month campaign promoting the BMW PGA Championship, Clear Channel’s sites will have the potential to reach over three million people living, working or visiting London at strategic, high target locations such as the M4, M3, A3 and M40.
Using some of the most iconic sites in UK outdoor advertising, including the M4 Tower, in addition to Clear Channel’s unique LD6 digital network in central London, the superstars of the game competing in the BMW PGA Championship will be extremely visible to a massive audience in the build-up to the 2014 event.
It is the first time that the European Tour and BMW has engaged in such a high-profile outdoor advertising campaign, and all three Tour champions are thrilled to be part of the initial launch in London, just a short distance from the iconic West Course at Wentworth Club.
US Open Champion, Rose, said: “The BMW PGA Championship has always been high on my list of priorities, as the flagship event of the European Tour. I have fond memories of going there as a youngster so to return to Wentworth this year as US Open champion is a great thrill.
“This campaign, bringing golf to some of London’s most iconic landmarks at many of the city’s most prominent locations, definitely takes the Championship to a new level and I can’t wait to get back home to see for myself!”
Stenson, who arrives at Wentworth Club as The Race to Dubai winner from 2013, commented: ““The BMW PGA Championship has always been a fantastic event and It’s great that the European Tour and BMW have got together to create this fantastic campaign, which will bring golf to the masses for the first time on many of the key motorway routes in and out of London and also around the city centre itself.”
Westwood who, like Rose, has twice finished runner-up in the BMW PGA Championship, added: “I’ve been fortunate to play in the BMW PGA Championship for the past 20 years and I always look forward to returning to Wentworth and trying to capture one of the most prestigious titles on the European Tour.
“I’ve travelled to and from Heathrow many times over the years and it will be interesting when I return to England to see my image ‘up in lights’ on some of London’s most visible poster sites which will be seen daily by millions of Londoners.”
