Martin Kaymer: Die Maschine

Martin Kaymer declared after his victory in the US Open Championship that he was not a robot, but the ruthless efficiency with which he closed out his second Major title may raise doubts.

Thanks Dave. Wow, what a victory for Kaymer and what a stunning performance. Stick with us as we wrap up a superb US Open with all the best stats, features, reports, photos and more...

Kaymer finishes with a one under par 69 and nine under total – eight ahead of Fowler and Compton. The damage was done with those two rounds of 65 on Thursday and Friday, but the 29 year old has been imperious throughout the week in claiming a second Major Championship. Will Pearson is on hand to guide you through all the reaction.

That’s it! Kaymer has simply blown them away this week for a fourth European win in five years. It’s also the first in this event by a Continental European – and he finishes in style by holing a 20 foot par putt.

MARTIN KAYMER WINS THE US OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP!

23:34

It’s the middle of the green for Kaymer, who walks up the fairway to huge cheers.

23:34

Not a great lie for Kaymer, but I don’t think he’ll be too bothered. It’s just a wedge out onto the fairway, which is the smart play when you’ve got eight shots to play with.

23:32

That is a very popular putt at the 18th, as Compton sinks an eight footer for par. Kaymer will quite rightly take the headlines, but what the 34 year old has overcome to potentially finish second in a Major should not be overlooked.

23:29

Fowler bogeys the 17th to fall into a tie for second with Compton, who has just pulled off an audacious recovery shot at the 18th. Kaymer settled for par at the 17th, and finishes with another of those slightly leaked drives off the fairway.

23:23

Kaymer is bang in the middle of the 17th green, it doesn’t look like we’re going to have any late wobbles here.
