Course Info

GREENS
Type of grass - Mix of Poa-Annua and bent grass.
Height of cut - 2.75mm
Speed/Stimpmeter reading - 10’4”
Any Specific comments - Greens quite small and re-design means that many of them have run-offs which make them very hard to hit and keep the ball on.

FAIRWAYS
Type of grass - Mix of Poa-Annua and Rye grass.
Height of cut - 11mm
General width and contouring - Average width but due to mountainside location many are either severely up or down hill.

TEES/COLLARS
Type of grass - Mix of Poa-Annua and Rye grass.
Height of cut - 11mm

ROUGH
Type of grass - Mix of Poa-Annua and Rye grass.
Height of cut
- semi: 32mm
- intermediate: 58mm
- rough: - 90mm

WEATHER
Weather in advance - This has been the worst summer in over 60 years in Crans with cool temperatures and extreme amounts of rain.  July had 25 days of rain as an example…
Forecast for tournament - Expected mild and largely dry.

COURSE
Opened - 1908
Course designer - Fremantle and Gedge. Then re-designed by M Nicholson in 1929 and Seve Ballesteros in 1999.
Special features - The 6th is a drivable par 4’s although very tight, so a risky play.
- The 7th is a drivable par 4 for everyone although the Out of Bounds is quite close on the right of the green.
General Play-ability - The course plays quite tough with the design and firmness of the greens which shed the balls if not properly controlled. The ball travels at least another 10% at this altitude.
Tree lined / exposed - Tree lined in most places.
Undulating / flat - Very Undulating.
Many / few water hazards - A few more hazards after changes last year so hazards are now on holes 10, 12, 13, 14, 17 & 18.
Changes to the course - After the changes to 10, 12, 13 and 17 last year more changes have taken place this year, with remodelling of the fairways and fairway bunkering on holes 1, 2 and 4 that has improved the view down these holes and toughened up the drive zones.  Hole 5 has been extended by 25 yards and the tee moved further right so we no longer expect many players to try and drive this green. Hole 9 has been completely re-modeled with changes to the fairway zone and bunkering as well as a completely new green and green complex.  The 14th hole has been reduced in length by 35M and will be played as a par 4 this year.

Other Features
- The most stunning venue on the European Tour with views up to the Pleine Morte Glacier and across the mountain ranges and valley below the 7th tee.
