*In claiming his first WGC title in the 2011 WGC – HSBC Champions, Martin Kaymer created WGC history by making up five shots in the final round. This is the largest final day comeback by a winner in a WGC stroke play event.

*Two of the 2014 Major Champions are playing, Bubba Watson (Masters Tournament) and Martin Kaymer (US Open Championship). The current WGC – Cadillac Champion, Patrick Reed is making his debut in the WGC – HSBC Champions, having become the youngest WGC winner, aged 23 years and 216 days at the Blue Monster in March. Overall there are ten WGC winners and ten Major Champions competing.

*European Tour Members will look to continue their successful run in the WGC - HSBC Champions, having won the event in three of the past four seasons, with Francesco Mollinari (2010), Martin Kaymer (2011) and Ian Poulter (2012).

*Should either Ernie Els, Hunter Mahan or Ian Poulter triumph they will have won three WGC titles to go alongside Geoff Ogilvy and into joint second in the list of most WGC wins.

*Ian Poulter, winner in 2012, came very close to making a successful defence of the title, eventually finishing second behind Dustin Johnson. He was also 13th in both 2010 and 2011. Since the event became a WGC event in November 2009, the Englishman he has played every year and is yet to finish the tournament over par. Since 2009 he is a total of 58 under par. The last two editions he finished on 21 below par. The Champions began in the 2006 European Tour season and Poulter has played in all previous nine events.

*There will be no fewer than 37 European Tour Members participating in the 2014 WGC – HSBC Champions. Five of the 37 will be making their debut in the event. They are: Victor Dubuisson, Jason Knutzon, Alexander Levy, Dawie Van der Walt and Marc Warren. Knutzon will be the only one of the five playing in any of the WGC events for the first time.

* The 2014 WGC – HSBC Champions will be played at Sheshan International GC for the fifth time. The only previous year it was not played at the Shanghai venue was 2012, when Mission Hills Golf Club staged the event over the Olazábal Course.
