Jumeirah Golf Estates announces an exciting new golf skills challenge which will take place at its European Tour Performance Institute (ETPI) throughout 2014, culminating in a Grand Final which takes place immediately before the 2014 staging of the DP World Tour Championship (November 20th to November 23rd 2014).
The concept was developed with and is partnered by AGMC – the official BMW Group Importer for Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, who continue their close association with Jumeirah Golf Estates and golf around Dubai.
The BMW Skills Challenge runs over a series eight qualifying rounds run between April and October 2014. During each of these qualifying rounds up to ten teams will pit their golf skills over a series of challenging golf skills tests including:
• Pitching skills
• Bunker skills
• Chipping skills
• Putting skills
• Driving accuracy and length skills
Each skill element will take place on ETPI’s world-class practice facilities under the guidance of the Golf Professionals at ETPI who will score each skill round.
Open to all golfers in the UAE, teams of four amateur golfers can enter in any of these qualifying rounds and the top team from each qualifying round goes through to a semi-final event to be held in early November. The top two teams from this stage proceed to the Grand Final which will take place on the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Consisting of an 18 hole team Stableford competition, the Grand Final with provide competitors with the added opportunity to amass additional points through on-course skills challenges during the round.
Wayne Johnson, ETPI Director of Instruction, stated “We are really delighted to be able to introduce what we believe will be a fun event for golfers in a unique environment. We are very grateful to AGMC for their support in making this event happen.
The qualifying rounds will take place on Saturday afternoons and the duration of each round will be about an hour so the time commitment for each golfer is not onerous.
ETPI is the premier golf practice and instructional facility in the region and has already seen significant usage by leading European Tour Professionals who appreciate the fantastic practice opportunities. I’m sure competitors in the BMW Skills Challenge will have a lot of enjoyment and also improve their short game skills in taking part.”
Osman Abdelmoneim, General Manager, AGMC, outlined “Golf is also a sport of extreme skill, thought and precision and therefore AGMC recognises the relationship between the BMW brand & the golf sport. This knowledge plus the fact that Jumeirah Golf Estates, like BMW is one of the most premium players in its field made our sponsorship of the BMW Skills Challenge at the European Tour Performance Institute an obvious move for us.”
Neal Graham, General Manager – Club Operations at Jumeirah Golf Estates commented “We have been seeking new ways to offer competitive golf within the UAE for a while. Having a facility such as ETPI and the support of a great partner in AGMC – BMW Importer has allowed us to develop this concept which has never before been staged in the UAE.
The cost of entry at just AED 500 per team means this skills challenge is open to all amateur golfers in the UAE. We have some superb prizes for the both the Runners-up and the Winning Team. Also all competitors will receive a range of additional benefits upon entry”
