Teenage Cancer Trust has been appointed the Official Charity of the BMW PGA Championship 2015 (EuropeanTour)

Teenage Cancer Trust has been appointed the Official Charity of the BMW PGA Championship 2015, taking place at Wentworth Club from May 21-24.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing the best possible care, support, treatment and chances of survival for the seven young people aged between 13 and 24 who are diagnosed with cancer every day.

As part of Teenage Cancer Trust’s nationwide network of 28 specialist cancer units, one of those units is located at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey, close to the iconic golfing venue which annually hosts the BMW PGA Championship, the flagship event on The European Tour.

Teenage Cancer Trust will benefit considerably from a range of fundraising initiatives before and during the BMW PGA Championship, with the majority of the funds raised coming from donations made by spectators in exchange for the Championship’s Official Programme.

The charity’s staff and volunteers will be at programme booths across the Championship site, from the Park & Ride car parks and the Welcome Pavilion to on-course locations such as the first tee and fifth green, requesting a voluntary donation of £2 for each Official Programme, which includes the Daily News and Draw sheet. One hundred per cent of the donations made will go to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Siobhan Dunn, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “On behalf of every young person with cancer who we support, I would like to say a big thank you to BMW PGA Championship for choosing to support Teenage Cancer Trust. We’re not a large charity and heavily rely on donations to provide the dedicated, specialist care and support we give to young people with cancer. We’re honoured to be involved in such a prestigious event and looking forward to supporting the event in May.”

David Park, Charity Executive of The European Tour, said: “We are delighted to be appointing Teenage Cancer Trust as this year’s Official Charity of the BMW PGA Championship.

“Teenage Cancer Trust has a close connection with Surrey, through the Royal Marsden, and we are pleased that the funds raised through the initiatives associated with the BMW PGA Championship will have a significant bearing on the lives of local young people who urgently need support.  We hope to be able to raise substantial funds for this very deserving cause that operates in such close proximity to the home of The European Tour and its flagship event.”

The BMW PGA Championship offers six days of high quality entertainment, including Official Practice Day, Celebrity Pro-Am and four rounds of compelling competition from May 19-24. Tickets are available on the European Tour website here: www.europeantour.com/tickets
