Venue Info

The European Tour travels to Close House, in Newcastle upon Tyne, for the first time in its history for the 2017 British Masters supported by Sky Sports from September 28-October 1.

Tournament host Lee Westwood, who has been Close House’s Touring Professional since 2011, won the British Masters at The Belfry in 2007, before narrowly missing out on successfully defending the title 12 months later when he lost in a play-off to Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño at the same venue.

Westwood succeeds Luke Donald in the role following the success of The Grove, meaning for the second consecutive year the host of the British Masters will be a former World Number One.

Course Info

Opened in 2011, the Lee Westwood Championship Colt course is set in almost 200 acres of beautiful Northumberland countryside. Designed by Scott Macpherson and named after English Golf Architect Harry Colt, the European Tour venue was voted one of the top 100 courses in the UK just one year after opening, and is the only course in North East to hold that accolade.

Lee Westwood has helped the team at Close House to improve the features of the Scott Macpherson designed Colt golf courses, adding new tees and bunkers. His experience of competing on the best courses around the world has allowed us to produce a golf course that will challenge all levels of golfer.
