Marc Leishman is dreaming of lifting the Kirkwood Cup for the first time as he returns to home soil for the Australian PGA Championship at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

The Australian has enjoyed a stellar 2017 and was awarded the Greg Norman Medal on Tuesday to recognise his achievements, which include winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the BMW Championship on the US PGA Tour.

And the 34 year old has his sights set on another victory this week but knows it will not be easy.

He said: "You grow up and these are the tournaments that you watch as a kid and you see your idols playing them and winning them and you want to win them.  I'm no different.

"I've seen my friends win them now and I would love to hoist the Kirkwood Cup up on Sunday, but you've got to play really good golf and just hope that someone else doesn't play better than you.

The course is in the best condition I've seen it and it's setting up for a really good week for the whole field - Marc Leishman

"As far as the score goes... It's hard to say really.  I think you would probably have to get to double figures under par but how far under, I don't know.  It just depends how everyone plays and what the weather does.

"The course is great.  I think this is going to be the fourth time I've played it at Royal Pines.

"It just seems to be getting better and better every year.  The grasses are really coming in and the greens are pretty receptive this year, which is good.

"The course is in the best condition I've seen it and it's setting up for a really good week for the whole field."

Another Australian happy to be back home this week is 2013 champion Adam Scott.

The former World Number One will be in the company of 2017 Masters Tournament winner Sergio Garcia and last week’s UBS Hong Kong Open winner Wade Ormsby when he begins his first round on Thursday.

And Scott believes the local fans will enjoy seeing such a strong field on the Gold Coast this week.

He said: "I'm very happy to be back here on the Gold Coast playing this week in front of a bit of a home crowd.

"It's a very exciting event, having Sergio come down coming off his Masters win and a fantastic year.

"He's just one of those guys who brings so much to a tournament and I think golf fans down here will really appreciate that.

"And also Leishman as well, who's had a cracker of a year, and now with Cameron Davis and Wade Ormsby winning last week, there are lots of good stories.

"So this is an exciting event and one that I've played well at the last few times around here at Royal Pines and I'm looking forward to this week."
