As the oldest of the four Major Championships, The Open is regarded as one of the most prestigious tournaments in the game. The 147th edition will be held a Carnoustie in 2018, a course that has previously hosted the event on seven different occasions.

Since the first staging in 1860, 14 different courses have hosted the tournament - Carnoustie, Royal Portrush, Royal St George's, St Andrews, Royal Birkdale, Muirfield, Royal Liverpool, Royal Lytham & St Anne's, Royal Troon, Turnberry, Musselburgh Links, Prestwick. Prince's and Royal Cinque Ports.

Jordan Spieth won the 2017 edition at Royal Birkdale, the youngest man to win the Claret Jug since Seve Ballesteros in 1979.
