Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston is the latest big name to be confirmed for the KLM Open at The Dutch, taking place between September 13-16, 2018.
‘Beef’ won his first European Tour title in 2016 at the Open de España and came eighth in The Open Championship in the same year.
With Johnston set to tee it up, the KLM Open has secured one of the most high-profile golfers in the world. Johnston is the third big name to be confirmed for the tournament at The Dutch in Spijk and will take part in the event for the third time.
The Englishman will be one of the stars of the show and he will be joined by Ryder Cup veteran Lee Westwood and upcoming talent Shubhankar Sharma. Johnston played the KLM Open in both 2012 and 2015, securing a 12th placed finish on the second occasion.
KLM Open ambassador Joost Luiten has been ruled out of the event because of a wrist injury but is delighted to see ‘Beef’ commit to the tournament.
KLM Open tournament director Daan Slooter said: "Andrew Johnston is an icon of modern golf. He is loved by everyone for his personality, but also for the beautiful way he approaches his golf. There are few golfers who are so popular with young and old alike.
"It's great that the KLM Open, thanks to tournament partners KLM and ING Private Banking, has managed to secure such a player. I have no doubt that we will hear cries of ‘Beef!’ from the galleries during the week.”
Andrew Johnston said: "I’m looking forward to playing at the KLM Open in Spijk later this year. The Dutch public were great the last time I played there, so I'm looking forward to it. See you all in September."
The KLM Open is known as one of the oldest and most innovative tournaments on the European Tour’s International Schedule. Quality and innovation go hand-in-hand at the KLM Open as the Dutch event was the first tournament where amateurs were allowed to compete against the professionals on the European Tour.
