We analyse the tournament performances of Stephen Gallacher, Richard Sterne, Felipe Aguilar and Thorbjørn Olesen, plus we highlight the players that topped each of the Genworth Statistics categories for the week, and show numerous other interesting facts.
They say it takes something special to win on the European Tour these days. Well Stephen Gallacher did just that this week. On his way to tying the tournament record of 266 (set by Thomas Björn in 2001), Stephen holed 5 shots from off the green. He excelled in Driving Distance (ranking 4th) and produced some brilliant putting statistics (helped by the holed shots). He also led the Par 4 Scoring with a fantastic 3.70 (hitting the most Greens in Regulation on those holes). But best of all Stephen made an incredible 5 eagles through the course of the week, which really is something special.

Richard Sterne performed well in most of the Genworth Statistics categories but it was the Par 5’s where he really excelled. He birdied 12 out of the 16 Par 5 holes on his way to ranking 2nd overall for Par 5 Scoring. And on 5 of those holes he actually hit the green in sub-regulation (2 shots), enabling him to 2-putt for birdies. Most impressive of all though is that Richard ranked 1st overall for birdies made with 26 in total (alongside Steve Webster) - that’s a birdie every 2.8 holes.

Felipe Aguilar has had a very successful Middle East Swing. After a missed cut in Abu Dhabi (the first event of his 2013 campaign), he then tied for 9th in Qatar and finally tied for 3rd at this Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, he ranked 3rd for Driving Accuracy (a stat he normally performs well in) and he ranked 1st for Sand Saves (with 4/4 up and downs). The 38 year old from Chile is generally very steady from tee to green.

Thorbjørn Olesen continued to impress with a superb performance to finish off the Middle East Swing (results of tied 2nd, tied 22nd and tied 3rd over the three weeks). His Genworth Statistics for the week show that he was not quite as accurate off the tee compared to the other players featured, but he did top the Par 3 Scoring with a 2.63 average and he also ranked 3rd for the Genworth Scrambles statistic (with 16/19). Thorbjørn Olesen may be a big player in the making, possessing that extra gear that few have. There is plenty more to come from the Danish rising star.
