Cleveland Golf has introduced the FL Series fairway wood – their lightest, longest and most forgiving fairway woods ever.
Designed to complement the exciting new Launcher Ultralite Driver Series, the FL fairway wood features the same breakthrough Ultralite technology.
With a very light total club weight, the FL Series fairway wood is some 30 grams lighter than a traditional fairway wood. This weight saving was possible thanks to the use of a lighter shaft and grip.
Cleveland Golf engineers worked closely with two trusted brands - Miyazaki Premium Shafts and Lamkin grips - to remove weight from both the shaft and grip the Right Way, without sacrificing playability.
The FL fairway wood is fitted with an ultra-premium 43 Series Miyazaki C. Kua shaft that is not only incredibly lightweight, but designed to keep the club stable so that shots stay straight.
A Lamkin 36 gram Superlite grip further reduces club weight. This lighter but balanced club produces faster headspeed, more ball speed and longer carry for all shots from the tee or off the fairway.
“By reducing the total club weight in the FL Series fairway woods our engineers were able to increase the clubhead speed by up to 3mph,” explains Scott Carlyle, Cleveland Golf head of research and development. “Although small, this increase in speed produces a measurably longer ball flight, in many cases up to 7-10 yards.”
Further design features of the FL fairway wood include a thin, hot face that propels shots longer and a parabolic leading edge design that allows the wood to sweep effortlessly across the fairway or through the rough.
Weight savings made by using a thin crown material have allowed Cleveland Golf engineers to add perimeter weighting low and deep in the back of the clubhead for stability and to give golfers an easy high launch on their shots.
Like the Ultralite driver series, the FL fairway woods are available in three fitting options, allowing golfers to precisely tune the trajectory of their shots. The three offerings are low-trajectory (13˚), mid-trajectory (15˚) and high-trajectory (17˚).
The Cleveland Golf FL Series fairway woods will begin shipping on January 1, 2011 with an RRP of £149.
