Tom Watson roared into contention in the final round of The Senior Open Championship with an eagle on the second hole to move to within touching distance of the leaders.

The 61 year old, bidding to become the oldest winner of The Senior Open Championship, holed a 20ft putt after reaching the green in two to move to six under par for the Championship, one behind leading trio Mark Calcavecchia, Russ Cochran and David Frost.

Also making a move was fellow American Fred Funk who was five under par for the day through 11 holes at Walton Heath Golf Club to sit a shot further back.

Englishman Barry Lane, who began the day one shot behind the leaders, opened with a bogey on the first as did Corey Pavin.
