Gordon Brand Jnr leap-frogged Barry Lane and Boonchu Ruangkit and took the outright lead midway through a rain-delayed final round of the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters at Woburn Golf Club on Sunday.
The Scotsman, who lay one shot off the pace entering the final round in Buckinghamshire, hit two birdies on the first and fifth holes and consolidated them with seven pars to lead the field on nine under par.
His two playing partners, however, were hot on his tail as Lane and Boonchu Ruangkit finished the front nine level par, leaving them on eight under for the tournament.
The rain caused a suspension in play between 13:12hrs and 15:00hrs after some of the greens became flooded but that wasn’t going to derail what has been a fascinating battle for the title in Woburn.
Senior Tour Order of Merit leader Peter Fowler was level par through ten holes and four shots off the lead on five under, alongside Sam Torrance, who was playing some very steady golf with one birdie and ten pars to one under through 11.
