What's in the Bag - Hennie Otto (EuropeanTour)
After Hennie Otto’s home heroics at the SA Open Championship we take a look at what tools of the trade he was wielding en route to his second European Tour victory at the Serengeti GC.

The Boksburg native was pin point accurate from tee to green throughout the week to post 14 under par with a stroke average of 68.5, an improvement on his 2011 Genworth Statistics in this area where he ranks 46th with 70.93.

This is a marked advance, but not as impressive as the gains he made in some other statistical areas in comparison to his season long numbers. The biggest of these came in his driving distance, ranking 125th for 2011 but some 113 places higher this past week in South Africa, hitting it 325 yards on average.

He was also much sharper on the greens, averaging 30 strokes for the week and ranking 38th with his 2011 numbers, while only being 0.2 worse, see him down the ranking at 147th.

His statistical progress continued throughout his bag finding 76.8 per cent of the fairways and 80.6 per cent of the greens in regulation, compared with 63.6 and 72 in these categories respectively.

The final area of statistical prowess for the week came in his ability to get up and down from the sand, ranking top, and never failing to get up and down. This is in stark contrast to his 2011 numbers that see him outside the top 100 on sand saves, only managing to get up and down once in every two efforts.

When looking at the Genworth Statistics for the week it is therefore very clear where Otto made his gains, and it is these improvements that have seen him pick up the most prestigious title of his career so far.
