American Dick Mast is closing in on a place on the 2012 European Senior Tour after extending his lead at Qualifying School Final Stage.

The 59 year old, who started the final round with a three stroke lead over Englishman Paul Wesselingh, extended that advantage with birdies on the second and fourth holes.

Both players then bogeyed the fifth hole although Wesselingh hit back with a birdie of his own on the sixth. Mast dropped another shot on the seventh but regained it immediately on the eighth to reach the turn on 11 under par and in pole position to lead the qualifiers, with Wesselingh seven under par.

The leading pair had opened a gap on those jostling for position behind them, with Japan’s Archie Takamatsu the biggest mover of the day. He birdied his opening two holes and also had an eagle on the tenth to move into contention for one of the six full cards.
