Estonian Golf and Country Club celebrated a five year extension to their European Tour Properties agreement at the network’s recent Spring Conference in Fleesensee, Germany.
The acclaimed venue, situated on the outskirts of the 2011 European City of Culture Tallinn, has put Estonia on the golfing map by hosting two Omega Mission Hills World Cup qualifiers, and will this year welcome the European Mid-Amateur Championship, from June 7-9.
The club’s spectacular Sea Course was ranked 84th in Golf World’s ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Europe’ in 2011, a remarkable achievement for a venue in an emerging golfing nation.
The venue, which boasts first-class facilities including an award-winning, contemporary clubhouse, plans to extend its facilities by adding a new nine holes to the property, transforming the nine-hole Stone Course into an 18-hole championship lay-out.
After signing the five year extension to the European Tour Properties, Hanno Kross, CEO of Estonian Golf & Country Club, said: “Our relationship with European Tour Properties and The European Tour offers us the benefit of a level of experience and knowledge that is not only important to Estonian Golf and Country Club, but to the development of the whole game of golf throughout Estonia.
“Through our relationship, we have been privileged to host two major events at our Club and the extension of our agreement will hopefully provide further tournament opportunities. We are delighted to continue our relationship with European Tour Properties as we embark on a new five-year plan for our Club which we hope will include the extension of the venue from 27 to 36 holes.”
David MacLaren, Director of Property & Venue Development at The European Tour, said: “We are delighted to reach this new agreement with our friends and partners at Estonian Golf and Country Club. The hallmarks of quality and style that we look for in our European Tour Properties portfolio are outstanding throughout this amazing club.
“The visionary plans of owner Mait Schmidt and Hanno and their team in Estonia are tremendously exciting and we look forward to contributing to the positive evolution of the venue over the next five years.
“Through hosting two successful World Cup qualifiers, and with one of the game’s most prestigious amateur titles being contested over the Sea Course this year, we feel that Estonian Golf and Country Club has cemented its reputation as one of Europe’s top 100 courses and are proud to promote it as a European Tour Course.”
