FootJoy, the #1 Shoe & Glove, claimed the first Major of the year following an action-packed Sunday in Augusta, Georgia that saw fellow FJ brand ambassadors, Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen go head-to-head over a dramatic back nine laden with twists and turns. Under the most intense pressure it was the charismatic American, renowned for his unique brand of ‘Bubba Golf’ that produced a miraculous shot from deep within the trees on the second playoff  hole to set up a winning par to claim his first Major title and the coveted Green Jacket.

Going into the final round paired together, it was the 2010 Open Champion, sporting his traditional FJ DryJoys Tour golf shoes and FJ SciFlex™ glove, who came out of the blocks in miraculous fashion, holing-out his second shot at the par 5 second hole for an unbelievable albatross. This promptly vaulted him straight to the top of a packed leaderboard, where he would remain until he was eventually caught by Watson on the 16th hole following a stunning four-hole birdie stretch to surge back into contention. Pars from both at the final two holes were enough to remain two-shots ahead of fellow FJ loyalist, Lee Westwood and take the tournament into sudden death.

Both players had a chance to claim the title at the first playoff hole, but birdie putts slipped agonizingly past the hole. Following errant drives down the 10th hole, the second playoff hole, it was time for a moment of pure genius and remarkable creativity as Bubba, relying on the superior fit of his FJ ICON™ golf shoes and performance-enhanced FJ SPIDR2™ glove produced a shot befitting of his own unique style of golf. From deep within the woods, the 33 year-old American saw a gap in the trees and promptly hit a 40 yard draw with a gap wedge from 164 yards to the middle of the green to set up a winning par and join the most exclusive club in golf.

“Congratulations must firstly go to Bubba for his hard-earned victory and first Major, but also to Louis and Lee for being part of a remarkable afternoon of golfing entertainment that will go down in Masters history books as one of the best ever,” commented Russell Lawes, Marketing Manager, FootJoy Europe. “To have three FJ loyalists battling it out at the top of the leaderboard on Maters Sunday is tremendously satisfying and a mark of the quality and performance of the market-leading brand.”

In addition to Watson’s victory and an all FJ top three, the week also marked a series of additional achievements for FootJoy, as the top six positions in the Official World Golf Rankings are now dominated by FJ brand ambassadors, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Bubba Watson,

Hunter Mahan and Steve Stricker. The brand also maintained a firm grip on the shoe and glove counts at Augusta, with 51% of competitors choosing the unrivalled comfort and fit of FJ golf shoes, compared to just 18% for its nearest competitor and 32% choosing the superior grip and feel of FJ gloves.

Whether it is the all-round excellence of the all-new FJ ICON™, the reliability and consistent performance of new DryJoys Tour™, or the sports performance of the FJ Sport™, FootJoy remains the overwhelming favourite for golfers of all abilities around the world.
